Wind turbines are a clean, sustainable energy technology that generates electricity from the power of the wind. They do not produce greenhouse gases or air pollution, and they are cheaper to operate and maintain than fossil fuel power plants. Wind turbines can also provide a reliable source of electricity and have a low environmental impact. They are a promising technology for the future of clean energy. In this project, the technology of wind turbines was explored and the design specifications were learned. The design requirements, including function, constraints, and objectives, were determined, as well as the main component of the wind turbine, the turbine blade. A conceptual design was developed by selecting suitable materials for the turbine blade based on the design requirements and top objectives, taking into consideration the mechanical properties and performance. Finally, a design embodiment was developed through CAD modelling to determine suitable blade dimensions that could withstand the design load requirement. For our specific scenario we were tasked with designing a clean wind turbine that could generate large amounts of power for the country of Sweden. The goal was to create multiple units for a new wind farm, which would be able to efficiently provide power to multiple cities.
